The Kalasha (Kalasha: Kaĺaśa, Nuristani: Kasivo) or Kalash, are indigenous people of the Hindu Kush mountain range, residing in the Chitral District of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa province of Pakistan. They speak the Kalasha language, from the Dardic family of the Indo-Iranian languages, and are considered a unique tribe among the Indo-Aryan population.

The Kalash people live in three isolated mountain valleys: Bumburet (Kalash: Mumuret), Rumbur (Rukmu), and Birir (Biriu). These valleys are opening towards the Kunar River, some 20 km south (downstream) of Chitral

They are related to the Nuristani people of the adjacent Nuristan province of Afghanistan, formerly known as Kafiristan. An autochthonous and polytheist group like the Kalasha of Chitral, the Nuristani converted to Islam in the late 19th century, while the Kalasha of Chitral maintain their own separate cultural traditions.

Kalasha women usually wear long black robes, often embroidered with cowrie shells. For this reason, they are known in Chitral as "The Black Kafirs". Men have adopted the Pakistani shalwar kameez, while children wear small versions of adult clothing after the age of four. Historically a goat herding and subsistence farming people.

The three main festivals (khawsáṅgaw) of the Kalash [15] are the Joshi festival in late May, the Uchau in autumn, and the Caumus in midwinter.

Climate: Summers maximum temperatures between 23° and 27 °C (73° - 81 °F). Winters, can be very cold,  average  minimum temperatures between 2° and 1 °C (36° - 34 °F). The average yearly precipitation is 700 to 800 mm (28 - 32 inches).

Elevation: 1670-2309 meters (5,476-7,576 feet).

Distance: 32-36km. (20-22 miles) south of Chitral.
By jeep: 2 ½ hours.

Information Technology “ Computer Centre”  & Linguistic Centre

Kalash Information Technology “ Computer Centre”  & Linguistic Centre June 29 - 2012: On June 29, 2012 Karwan-e-Khair established its 5th INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY " Computer Centre" & LINGUISTIC CENTRE in Kalash valley Bumburate, District / Tehsil Chitral. This centre is the first one in the history of Kalash.

People appreciated our efforts, they said our way of working is effective by which our youngster shall stand on their feet. They also said these things are seen first time in Kalash history. It was reported that Karwan-e-Khair members are doing excellent job in despite of all the difficulties. According to resources there is a tremendous rise in the students since Centre established.

We had computers, Printer, Scaner, Projector etc. Experts of  I.T were with me. In Kalash we organized 5days I.T workshop in which more then 300 boys & girls will participated. We have also distributed Certificates among students.

Teachers of Kalash had join us & they formed Karwan-e-Khair teachers committee, they will look after the whole education projects.

Libraries

Kalash Library March 15 – 2013: Karwan-e-Khair established its 1st LIBRARY in Kalash valley Bumburate, village Bron, District / Tehsil Chitral. This LIBRARY is the first one in the history of Kalash.  On primary purpose of establishing this Library in a remote area like Kalash is to bring awareness and interest of studies among our young generation. In this regard we especially need books, which can fascinate children.

Kalash Valley Rumbur Village Garom 15th Skill Development Centre / Industrial Home On May 23 – 2014: Opening ceremony of  15th Skill Development Centre / Industrial Home along with 5 sewing Machines in the Madrasa for girls namely MADRASA SOUT-UL-QURAN LILLBANAT inKalash Valley Rumbur Village , Post Office Ayun, Tehsil / Dist. Chitral in which more then 60 girls are learning Quran.

Kalash Valleies Skill Development Centres(SDC):Opening ceremonies,On March 13 – 2013 Berir Village Aspar of  12th SDC, Dec 26-2011 Bumburet Village Anish 10^th SDC, Dec 25 – 2011 Bumburet Village Karkal 9^th SDC, New Member Welcoming Ceremony: New members are welcomed to our congregation during a simple ceremony with the New 25 Female Member's Affirmation and the Congregational Covenant. Dec 24 – 2011Village Bron8^th SDC. with 5 sewing Machines at each Centres, along with Embroidery and Overlock machines. A skilled person with us who teach them how to use these machines.

AlhamdoLillah on May 20- 2114 we installed CLOCK as we have taken whole responsibilities of oldest & 1st Masjid in the history of Kalash, Valley Bumburate "Masjid Jamia Faridia" village Bron, Dist. Chitral

We visited our Clinical Laboratory, Computer Centre, 3 girls Madaris, Msjid, 4 Skill Develop. Centres. We also established 15th Skill Development Centre in girls Madrasa at Kalash valley Rumbur.

A Masjid in Kalash “ Jamia Masjid Karkal “ And “Madrasa Rozatul Quran" in Kalash Valley Bumburet, Village Karkal, Distt. Chitral, has burn out completely last week, we are requested to u kindly join us for the reconstruction of the Masjid and Madrasa.

HELP FLOOD AFFECTED PEOPLE OF KALASH "CHITRAL"

On 11 August-2015, I & my family have gone to celebrate 14 August “Independence Day” with FLOOD AFFECTIES IN KALASH CHITRAL.

On 14 August-2015, we distributed Ration, Cloths, Blankets, Jackets, and Stationery etc. Since roads & bridges were completely destroyed so we used Horses & Mules to reach our destination. We also walked and reached Kalash after 5 hours.

On 16 August-2015, in collaboration with Pakistan Army, we distributed Ration, Cloths, Blankets, Jackets, and Stationery etc. among Flood affecties. We are thankful to Pakistan Army for logistic support provided such as Helicopter etc.

18 August-2015: We met Late General Hameed Gul’s Family.

On 22 July-2015: Alham do Lillah we are the only NGO who First distributed Ration, Blankets, Chetae, Jackets, Cloths, Generators among the affected families.of KALASH BUMBURATE CHITRAL. Our team still working in flood affected areas of Chitral and Kalash Bumburet, Birir & Rumbur Vallies.

Flash floods and rain washing away villages, access roads, bridges, clean drinking water was also affected as the flood water reached the springs used for drinking. public/private property and agricultural crops.

Medical Centre

Medical Centre Kalash Sep 06 – 2011: To provide health care facilitates in Kalash valley Karwan-e-Khairis established 6th Medical Centre by the name of Kalash Medical Centre “KMC” established in Kalash valley Mumuret ( Bumborate ) village Kraka ( Krakal ), Post Office Ayun, Tehsil / District Chitral Pakistan, for the people of Kalash valleys and adjoining areas.  Karwan-e-Khair has provided medicines and medical equipments to KMC, the people of  said these things are seen first time in the history of Kalash. Ms. HAZRAT GUL only L.H.V in Kalash valleys, she has done her LHV course from public health school Peshawar. She is working in BHU Mumuret and will be responsible for KMC to help people indeed in the area.

Medical Camp

Kalash Free Medical Camp Sep 04 – 2011:Free Medical Camps Organized,  aim to provide health care facilities for the people of  alash valleys and adjoining areas.  Venue Jinnah Kalash Hotel, village Anish, Kalash valley Mumuret ( Bumborate ), Post Office Ayun, Tehsil / District Chitral Pakistan.

September 4th -2011 the free medical camp was so successful round about 145 patients got benefited. September 5th -2011 medical camp was also successful round about 45 patients got benefited. September 5^th medical campwas not schedule but suddenly we got doctors guest from Lahore and discussed the recent free medical camp with them and they are found good doctors and showed willingness to help the community and again KMC got chance to organized day two for the people in same valley.

The patients were included children, women and men both from Muslim and Kalash community. Patients were happy to get such a nice chance in their door steps.

Clinical Laboratory

Clinical Laboratory  Kalash Valley Bumburet Village Kandisar B.H.U Dec 23 – 2011: Karwan-e-Khair inaugurated first Clinical Laboratory in the history of Kalash at Kalash Valley Bumburet Village Kandisar B.H.U (Equipments and chemicals provided by Karwan-e-Khair ) collaboration with Pakistan Red Crescent and German Red Cross (They manage Lab).

Alham do Lillah, On Sunday 28th Dec. 2014, we organized “CRICKET TOURNAMENT FINAL” at KALASH. We also distributed Cloths, Sweeters, Blankets, Shawls, Jeckets among both Muslim & Kalashies.

Kalash Schools Fastival Distribution of School Kits Dec 23 – 2011: Karwan-e-Khair arrange Kalash Schools Fastival at Govt. Kalash Primary School Bumburet. students warmly welcomed the team upon arrival with open hearts. They seemed cheerful and enjoying.

The program was started with Kalash Song and followed by delivery of  Nazm ( Lab pe aati hai dua ban kay tamana meri.
Zindagi sham'a key surat ho Khudaya meri ), National Songs, speeches on different topics both in Urdu and English from students. Their “tableaus” was also enjoyable items .

Karwan-e-Khair distributed Stationery, School Bags, Tiffin Boxes, Calculators, Cloths, Sweets & biscuits and Flags of Pakistan among the position holders, poor and other students.  They seemed very happy after receiving all these items.

The program was concluded with singing of National Anthem of PAKISTAN.

Quran, Madrasa & Masjid

May 20- 2014: AlhamdoLillah as we have taken whole responsibilities of oldest & 1st Masjid in the history of Kalash, Valley Bumburate "Masjid Jamia Faridia" village Bron, Dist. Chitral, we installed CLOCK, March 17-2013 Lights,  Door. Renovation work of Wazookhana have been completed, Renovation work of Masjid is still going on, Kindly donate for the esale-e-sawab for your beloved who passed away

August 14-2012: 1am, I left Karachi for KALASH to deliver Daries ( for Namaz ), Sound System, Quran.& others items for Madaris & the Oldest & 1st MASJID in the history of Kalash, Valley Bumburate "Masjid Jamia Faridia" village Bron, Dist. Chitral. I reached Kalash on 27 Ramadan & AlhamdoLillah all the work has been accomplished, White wash of masjid completed & renovation works ( Wazookhana estimated cost is Rs.  75,000 kindly donate  for the esale-e-sawab for ur beloved who passed away) are still going on. As we have taken whole responsibilities of Masjid.

We also distributed Quran & Scrafs in Madaris of Kalash valley BIRIR 16 August & RUMBUR 18 August
